What is Cupro?

Cupro is a regenerated cellulose fiber with a smooth feel, soft drape and often a silk-like effect.

Glossary illustration for Cupro

Definition

Cupro is usually made from very short cotton fibers, so-called linters, in a special solution process. The fiber is fine, absorbs moisture and is often used for linings, blouses, dresses and flowing trousers.

In simple words

Cupro can feel cool and smooth, without the stiff shine of some synthetics. As a lining, it glides well over other clothing. However, the name alone says nothing about the environmental impact or quality; Manufacturing, coloring and processing remain crucial.

What to pay attention to

  • Check the care label because some cupro fabrics are sensitive to water, friction, or high heat.
  • Watch out for seam puckering and warping on very fine fabrics.
  • Assess transparency and underwear lines on light, flowing garments.

Common misconceptions

Cupro is neither cotton nor silk, even though the raw material is cellulose-based and the feel can be silky.

ESKYNA note

Cupro brings flowing elegance and pleasant smoothness, but deserves the same quality check as any other fiber.
