Definition
Godets are usually used in the seams of skirts or dresses. They can be triangular, semi-circular or specially flared and made of the same or a contrasting material.
In simple words
Above the insert, the silhouette remains narrow; underneath it opens. This creates swing, hem width and a targeted emphasis on movement. Multiple godets can create an almost bell-shaped fall without widening the waist or hips.
What to pay attention to
- Check that all bets start at the same height and fall symmetrically.
- Make sure the ends are clean, as dents or creases can easily appear there.
- Observe the effect while walking, not just standing.
Common misconceptions
A godet is not a fold. The additional width is created by a separate piece of fabric inserted.
ESKYNA note
Godets keep the line clear at the top and give it movement at the bottom - width exactly where it should work.
