What is waist height?

The waist height of trousers describes the vertical path from the crotch to the waistband and influences the fit and perceived waist position.

Definition

Front and back waist heights can be different lengths. Terms such as low, mid and high waist describe the visible waistband, while the specific waist height is a cut or measurement value.

In simple words

A suitable waist height prevents pulling in the crotch, a protruding back band or cutting in when sitting. Two pants with the same waist height may feel different if the crotch shape and back length are constructed differently.

What to pay attention to

  • Sit down and check that the waistband remains stable and that the crotch doesn’t pull down.
  • Look for horizontal pleats at the front and a protruding waistband at the back.
  • Compare the front and back waist height of pants that fit you particularly well.

Common misconceptions

Rise and waist height are related, but not completely the same. The waist height includes the construction from the crotch to the waistband.

ESKYNA note

The waist height decides whether the waistband only looks right or stays right when sitting.
