Definition
In contrast to reduced minimalism, maximalist style works with layering, contrast and decorative presence. Good maximalist looks are still composed and not arbitrary.
In simple words
Repetitions hold the diversity together: a color appears several times, patterns share a similar size or metals are deliberately repeated. A calm basic tone can help, as can a clear silhouette. Maximalism is therefore less about the quantity itself than the conscious ordering of many stimuli.
What to pay attention to
- Determine a unifying element such as color, era, shape or material.
- Check from a greater distance whether a clear center of gravity remains visible.
- Reduce where accessories compete with each other instead of reinforcing each other.
Common misconceptions
Maximalism is not the same as indiscriminate accumulation. Impact arises from curated density.
ESKYNA note
More only becomes maximalist when the abundance has a recognizable idea.
